travel asia china guilin around the city
In December, this large inland city in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was hidden under a film of smoke and fog.
There were distinct differences between those areas and structures that catered to tourists and those that were used by the locals.
The streets were full of people and bicycles but very few cars.
Coming in from the airport late at night, we rode through dark wide rutted streets lined with storefront homes that doubled as businesses.
Families grouped around tables with small televisions under a single light bulb, their "livingrooms" often open to the street with roll-up doors.
